Slow Marathoner chasing an impossible 6-Star dream.
I would love to be a Six Star World Marathon Major finisher, but unlikely for a slow runner like me. All I can do is try though, right!?
My name is Yuenny (pronounced 'uni' if you ever wondered). I have fallen back in love with running while trying to improve my mental health. I was desperate for something, anything, to change in my life and running was one of the things that came up. It's a good cardio option, it's free and you can push as far as you want with it. The sky is the limit!
I also like to test out various products and running gear.

I'm glad your marathon training seems to be going well! Well done sticking to your training despite the heat. It is way too hot for me 🥵I went out for a run yesterday and my face looked like a beetroot by the end haha. That novablast colourway looks so cool! I will have to try the novablast 4, I see they have a lots of positive reviews. I've been running in some vomero 16's I bought recently, but I have mixed feelings about them.
Thank you 😊 It's not been easy but I've been getting up at 5:30-6:00am during the week to run before work. Weekends I'm a bit slower heading out the door but I still try to get them done early. Afternoons and evening are way too hot for any kind of exercise. Not surprised you looked like a beetroot running in this heat 😄 How come you have mixed feelings about your new shoes?
Walking ahh pace
@@carbonbikedream Pardon?
@@YuennyLam I forgive you lol. Just keep training hard and enventually you'll be able to run in a decent pace for a healthy human
@@carbonbikedream What do you mean by "decent" pace?
Great job getting that long run done, especially in the warm summer weather. Morning runs are definitely the best choice. Jealous of that super Mario top! =D Hope you're enjoying your new watch. Chicago will be here before you know it!
At the moment my runs have to be in the mornings. It's just too warm for exercise later in the day. It was already 20C at 7am today 🥵 I love Super Mario stuff. I have all sorts 😄 I'm certainly a Nintendo fan 😁 How are you getting on with your new watch?
@@YuennyLam I do mine mostly before 11am if I can. Yes, very warm today! Hah that's amazing, Mario is the best! I have Nintendo squishes like Yoshi :D Yeah, I'm really enjoying it thank you. The battery life is the best I've ever had on a watch (28+ days) :O!
Yoshi is my absolute favourite character. I have plushies in various sizes 😄 I'm such a child lol. I've been getting my runs done by about 7am because I start work at 8, so the days I work from home are good days to run first thing. I'm happy the watch is good and battery sounds amazing!!
Good luck with the marathon training. Good to see you building up the distance again. How does it feel getting into your second marathon training block compared to last time? Looking forward to the 955 vs 255 video👍
Thank you 😊 This time around it feels easier in a way. I think because I've done it once so I know what to expect. 17K felt like a really really long run last time but this time around it doesn't feel daunting and no point did I feel worried about the distance. Only taken two gels with me and a bit of water. Mentally I know that until I start getting to 25K and towards 34K, it's not really the challenging type of long runs at this stage. I've also been doing some other difficult races, so I feel like my body is happier with longer distances which I'm happy about.
@YuennyLam yes, I agree 100%. Last time, anything over 15k seemed a long way. Now, I find anything 20 - 30k is 'normal' and even enjoyable. Good luck for the next 11 weeks.
I remember when 10Ks were really long runs. It's such a nice feeling to have, knowing you're getting fitter the more you run. Just makes me want to keep going 😁
Awesome upgrade! I might have had a sneaky upgrade too =D
Ooooh.....what's the upgrade? 🤔
@@YuennyLam Fenix 7X Pro Solar Sapphire =D I may have found it half price somewhere haha!
@@mikestevenson1334 How exciting! I was looking at the Fenix 7 Pro but didn't find a good deal anywhere. And I think it'll be a bit big for me to wear every day, as I wear it to bed and basically never take it off. How are you finding it?
@@YuennyLam Honestly, I wasn't sure how the biggest watch Garmin makes would fit, but when I combine it with this awesome nylon strap I got, it works really well. It feels no different to the forerunners and I wear it 24/7! =D How are you enjoying your new watch?
That's interesting. I thought a chunkier watch would be more uncomfortable and that you might feel the weight more. I'm enjoying my new watch. It's very similar to the 255 but longer battery. I think I'll be content with this watch for many years without having to worry about upgrading, especially with more watches having an AMOLED screen 😊
I'm curious about your impressions of the new watch. The 955 is slightly thicker, however, and larger. Do you notice the difference when you use it 24/7? I'm also wondering whether to change my 255 to 955... I miss the touch screen and hot keys in the 255...
I'll be doing a video on the 955 soon and also compare it to the 255. I feel like there aren't many reviews on the two and I feel like 955 isn't that much of an upgrade to the 255, as the 255 is already really good as a sports watch. It is thicker but same as the 255, I don't really feel it wearing it 24/7. I thought I would, especially in bed, but it's surprisingly lightweight and comfortable. I don't really use the touch screen to be honest. I like the idea and during the day I would like to have it on for scrolling but I'd have to turn it off when I go to bed because actually turning the screen on in the night is just going to wake me up. And I'm a super light sleeper as it is with insomnia, so anything that could wake me up is a big no no.
@@YuennyLam so I'm waiting patiently for your review on RUclips :) Thank you for reply :)
@@F.Adamus Thanks for the chat and your patience 😁 Speak soon!
@@YuennyLamSorry, but I have one more question... What is the advantage for you personally of exchanging 255 for 955? Since you don't actually use the touchscreen....
@@F.Adamus No need to apologise 😁 I want better map function and longer battery. And a silly reason - the 255 and 955 are the same size in terms of diameter but the 955 looks bigger with the extra height and just the design of it. I also want the Training Readiness and live Stamina feature that the 255 doesn't have. Those are a bit new to me so I don't know how much I'll actually use them or feel the benefit. But even when I got the 255, I really wanted the 955. It was just too expensive at the time. Hope that answers your question 😊
Nice! I really like my Fenix 7 Solar, and from what I know they're somewhat similar, so I hope you'll also like this one 😃
I was looking into the Fenix 7 Pro, which I almost went for, but I want a watch where I don't really take off and thought the Fenix is a bit chunky to be comfortable wearing in bed. That's the only reason I went for the 955. Do you wear your Fenix 24/7?
@@YuennyLam yeah, I only take off my Fenix when I shower or if I really need to charge it. When I remember, I charge it when I shower, but sometimes I forget 😅 But I'm so used to sleeping with it on my wrist; I think it would feel weird not to 😅 And I love having it as my "alarm", vibrating my wrist instead of a noisy sound alarm
@@YuennyLam looks like my comment got lost when sending it. Either way, I wear my Fenix all the time except when showering 😊 No issues for me, even considering going for the X model next time
@@NeuwDk I like how big the X is. Good to know that it feels okay to wear all the time and that it doesn't get in the way despite it being quite a big size.
Found the comment 😁 I really love the alarm feature on the 255 and now 955 as well. I usually shower with mine so it gets cleaned and then I usually take it off to dry. That's when I plug it on to charge if it needs topping up.
In my opinion the Noe BB is much easier to get in and out of than the Speedy. Love bucket bags !
@@lauralangham9657 Agree, a much wider opening on the Noe BB and you can see a lot more than the Speedy 25 😁
I have a Garmin forerunner 55 but I’m upgrading to the 255.. I like the size of the 55 but I’m not sure which one to go for. What do you think I should do?
@@debbiemccarthy5922 If you like the size of the Forerunner 55 then the 255S might be a better size for you. Is there anywhere you can try on the watch?
SHEEPS!!! Gorgeous vlog Yuenny !
@@user-ky6to4uq5m Hehe...they were so chatty 😁
I have exactly the same wrist size 15.5 cms. I felt it big but what do you feel it
To me it feels small and I want to get a bigger watch. I think it's personal preference. I find it small on my wrist but I've had people say to me my watch looks big so 🤷🏻♀️
Love running down a hill faster than you think it'll be! =D haha such fun! Great job completing it, looked like a beautiful and very enjoyable trail run.
I always forget how fun downhill running can be, until it's too steep and your quads can't take the bashing anymore 😄 I enjoyed the run a lot more than I thought I would. How's your running going?
@@YuennyLam LOL, I know the feeling. Immediately regretting it when your knees say OW OW OW! Great to hear you enjoyed it. Yeah, all good. Varying my runs much more these days (thresholds/anaerobic/tempo) and I've found my vo2max increasing and my HR during base runs has come down while still at a faster pace which is cool to see!
Good you feel like you're improving. If you consistently run enough you'll no doubt get fitter. I'm hoping that staying consistent I can eventually run a bit faster and for longer without being completely broken after a long run🤞🏻
@@YuennyLam That's great! I hope you achieve that goal. Increasing the S&C definitely helps. Have you been doing any tempo/threshold/speed sessions?
@@mikestevenson1334 Yes, I do one speed run a week, which can be threshold, time trial, tempo and pyramid sessions etc. All sorts of variety which makes running more interesting.
I definitely need to check out the Maverick races!
You should. Very well organised events. Lovely staff, great communication and free parking 😁 I look forward to running more.
That looked like a lot of fun!

I never knew ASICS did that with shoes. I wonder do other companies.🤔 Another tip for shoe buying is to trawl through Vinted and set up searches for certain shoes. It’s amazing how many people post relatively unused shoes at decent discounts. I’ve picked up a few great bargains. And one final tip, if for any reason the belt doesn’t work out, I can recommend Decathlon’s Kiprun belt is great, cheapest and best belt I’ve ever had, after wearing through 3 overpriced Salomon belts.
I've read about it a while ago. If you sign up to be a One Asics member then you get 90-day gear trial. I even e-mailed them to clarify that I can wear them outside running and still return them if I need to. I was getting quite fed up wasting so much money on shoes that don't work for me. I sell my unwanted barely used running shoes on Vinted but never bought any 😁 I looked at the Kiprun belt and it looked good. It was quite hard for me to decide which belt to try, neither the Camelbak or Decathlon one had any reviews on them. Thanks for the suggestions 😊
How are you finding the Novablast 4? I've been umming and ahhing whether I should get a pairt (the trail version for the additional grip)
I've only been on a little run in the Novablast 4s, so it's early days to tell, especially after the 3s really not working out for me for some strange reason. I still have the Novablast 3 TRs which I absolutely love and don't want to stop running in them. I wonder if the 4 TRs would be as good. I haven't seen the 4 TRs anywhere though 🤔
@@YuennyLam I saw them on sale at sportsshoes. Would asics let you swap shoes as part of the 90 day trial policy?
I'm not sure. I messaged them about returning them if they are no good for me and they confirmed I can, even if I've worn them. I guess they would refund the pair I bought so I can buy a different pair? I'm not entirely sure how it works and seems too good to be true. I've also never heard or read anyone talk about this 90-day gear trial from Asics 🤔
It's weird they've never appeared on the ASICS website. I look all the time and never seen the 4 TRs on there. Unless it was so brief I've somehow missed it.
Noooo, you can't sacrifice the jelly babies 😁 Quick question: I have tried a bunch of belts and I struggle to get my phone (in it's case) in the front pocket. What size/model is your phone, if you don't mind me asking.
Haha.....it'll be so sad if I have to lose the jelly babies. I don't mind at all 😊 I have the Google Pixel 7 with quite a slim case. I've never really had a big phone so they usually fit in the belts I have/have had.
Hi Yuenny. I have used the saloman active skin 8 for the past couple of years and all long runs leading up to London. I have 2 x 500ml soft flasks and a large bladder is a separate pocket in back. I prefer using the bladder to move the weight to the back, rather than the front and it means all the pockets are available for gels, snacks etc. It's been great. Plenty of pockets and no chaffing, but a couple of weeks ago the zip on one of the pockets broke. It is now held together with extra safety pins so it is still useable, just looks a bit "Goth" 😁 . For shorter runs I just use a belt with a single large pocket for phone and keys (cheap version from amazon, bought about 3 years ago). It is fine anytime I don't need to carry water. For longer runs I tend to use both pack and belt. I can carry everything I need including extra jacket and even a change of shoes in the bungee straps on the back. I can't imagine trying to run a marathon distance without the pack to be honest. I have looked at larger belts as an option, but haven't found any suitable products yet. I would be very interested to get your feedback from the two belts you are experimenting with.
I'm interested in the Salomon ADV Skin 12 to replace my Harrier Curbal 5L, especially if I'm going to run UTS 25 again. The 5L just wasn't enough, even though it wasn't a really long distance. I think I prefer the front bottles and that's probably why I find that I don't have enough space. I used a cheap waist belt I got from Amazon too for many years. And then I was gifted the Salomon Pulse Belt for Christmas which replaced the Amazon one. Training and running a Marathon without a vest is certainly going to be a challenge. The Camelbak has worked surprisingly well when I took it out last weekend for a test run. I'm just hoping it's enough to carry everything in Chicago, but I might have to ditch the jelly babies because there's not going to be enough space to carry those 😕
@@YuennyLam I have started taking the jelly babies out of the original bag and transferring them to a couple of smaller zip lock freezer bags. Easier to pack, access and refill at aid stations. I have also trialed the magnetic bib holders. I picked up a set for £5 from a Run Through event recently. They don't pierce or mark my tops and haven't failed yet. I'm still a little nervous in case they pop off, so have some energy safety pins in my pack just in case
@@tonymayall5039 I think I might have to do the same with the way I carry jelly babies. Hopefully I can still fit some in my belt. I have another belt where I attach my bib to. I need to cut holes in the top corners, put the elastic ends through the holes and use the toggles to secure. Works quite well but it means I have to wear another thing around my waist when I run. I feel like I'd be worried about the magnets too. I'm surprised there aren't other better ways to attach bibs to t-shirts without ruining them.
I carry some money with me and buy water and snack bars at stores and gas stations on the way
@@JoannaSoul97 That's a good idea. I've never done that before and I always have everything I need when I head out for a run. Worth considering though. Thanks 😊
Great information!
Thanks for watching 😊
